Heart Month

I hope you had a great Valentine's day celebrating love and opening up your heart; but it doesn't have to end up on February 14th because February is Heart month, so how about finding ways to love your body and making your heart healthier?

Fat has always been linked to heart disease, so I would like you to take the challenge this month that the Dietary Guidelines for American recommends: to eat less than 10% of calories from fat, and limit saturated fat (fat from animal sources) by 15%. On a daily basis, that translates to less than 10 grams a day.

Steps you can take to cut down the "bad-for-your-heart-fat":
- Substitute one to two days of meat with beans
- Avoid junk food
- Replace butter with liquid vegetable oils, in cooking and at the table.
